Hello, should a person that is going to the fashion industry have a tattoo?

Well after highs chool im planning to be in the fashion industry and this year i turn 18 and im thinking about getting a tattoo? should i?
Like would it look bad...my mom says that i shouldn't get one because it wouldn't look so professional. do you know what i mean?

There are lots of people in the fashion industry with tattoos, but I'm sure many of them got theirs after they were already established in their careers. And I'm sure there are many more who have discrete tattoos that wouldn't make a positive or negative difference in their careers. Your mother's point is especially relevant when you're beginning your career. If you're going to be working in design, there's a huge chance you'll have to meet with potential investors who may judge you negatively -- think you're flighty or a follower -- if you have visible tattoos.

If you're sure you want a tattoo, it would be best to get a discrete one you could easily cover when meeting people in the industry. Once you've established yourself and have a favorable reputation for professionalism, getting a visible tattoo won't matter as much. As much as it seems silly that people would judge you based on skin ink, it's still a risk in a business fraught with more important risks. I'd hate to see you declined financial backing for your line over something trivial when it could so easily be avoided.
